  • Soft Tissue General Surgery Certification Program: Our certification program is an intensive two-week program exclusively for veterinary doctors. Together with Dr. Maykel Povea, participants will learn topics such as surgical principles, operating room areas, instrumentation, surgical anatomy, and more. The first week focuses on specific topics in general abdominal surgery, including gastrointestinal, urinary, and reproductive surgery, using both anatomical models and real patients. Emphasis is placed on the importance of patient stabilization, recovery, and prognosis. In the second week, more advanced topics are covered, such as hepatobiliary, adrenal, oncological, and reconstructive surgery, as well as principles of thoracic surgery. To obtain certification, the doctor must complete a journal club, where they analyze a current publication on a surgical topic, either individually or in a group. This, along with their participation during the course, will contribute to the necessary score for certification.

  • Emergency Surgery Certification Program: This is an intensive 32-hour program exclusively for veterinary doctors, where they will learn the necessary skills to successfully manage common surgical emergencies. The introduction of this program gives special attention to the stabilization of emergency patients, emphasizing the importance of improving prognosis in different cases. Participants will learn about the pathophysiology, surgical techniques, and post-operative care in these types of patients. The techniques included in the program are gastric dilatation-volvulus, surgical management of urethral obstruction, peritonitis, diaphragmatic hernia, partial and total hepatic lobectomy, and splenectomy. To obtain certification, the doctor must prepare a journal club presentation on a current article related to surgical emergencies.
